Securing Business Emails Against Phishing

Email phishing scams deceive users into sharing sensitive information with attackers or installing malware on their devices, and are at the root of over 90% of all cyberattacks and data breaches.

What Is Email Securing Business Emails Against Phishing?

Modern email phishing attacks come in many forms - from standard en masse campaigns to highly targeted spear phishing attacks to the notorious business email compromise (BEC) scam, frequently used to steal large sums of money from companies and their customers. And phishing attacks are evolving daily to outsmart security defenses.

Anatomy of a Phishing Attack

The majority of phishing attacks follow the same five phases:

Phase 1

Target

Acquire List

Phishers use a variety of sophisticated techniques to build target lists, including harvesting email addresses stolen in data breaches or purchased on the Dark Web and leveraging consumer databases freely available on the Internet.

Phase 2

Deliver

Launch Attack

Attackers target the list they’ve acquired with stealthy campaigns that impersonate known and trusted entities, and employ identity deception techniques like domain spoofing and lookalike domains to appear legitimate.

Phase 3

Deceive

Create Urgency

Phishers often create a sense of urgency around their call-to-action to encourage recipients to act fast without stopping to think things through or carefully investigate the email they’ve received. This tactic is highly effective, and phishing emails have an open rate of over 30% on average.

Phase 4

Click

Elicit Response

Recipients take the bait and click phishing site links designed to impersonate legitimate login screens. Once credentials are submitted, it’s “game on” for the cybercriminals carrying out the scam.

Phase 5

Exploit

Reap Rewards

The threat actors are now able to log into the victim’s compromised account to steal money by conducting a fraudulent transfer or using a stolen credit card number. In addition to financial losses, phishing victims spend an average of 23 hours remediating the aftermath of an attack.

Safeguards the Inbox against Phishing & Other Malicious Threats

Phishing is rapidly evolving, and small businesses are just as at risk from cybersecurity threats as large enterprises. Small businesses often have less stringent technological defenses, less awareness of threats, and fewer resources to invest in protection. Small businesses have the most to lose, and cyberthieves know how to exploit these weaknesses.

Guardian Digital keeps SMBs and enterprises alike ahead of the latest phishing and zero-day attacks identified worldwide with adaptive real-time defenses capable of evolving as quickly as these threats themselves.

Closes Gaps in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace to Stop Phishing Attacks

Native Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace email protection are unable to defend against malicious URLs and attachments that are not included in their static URL lists, and are thus ineffective alone in safeguarding the inbox against human error. One in ten employees will click on a malicious link in a phishing email, and it only takes one click to result in the compromise of sensitive information or the installation of crippling ransomware on corporate systems.

Guardian Digital EnGarde Cloud Email Security closes the gaps in native Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace email protection with additional layers of proactive email defenses that prevent the latest phishing tactics, including spoofing, use of malicious links, malware, and zero-day attacks from infiltrating your employees’ inboxes.
